The year has flown by and 2023 is fast approaching! 2022 has seen many challenges, opportunities, and exciting times for both the Anara Publishing company and our artists, we even turned 5 years old! Overall, it’s been another year of positivity and growth and it really has been a pleasure to look back upon our highlights to put together this blog.

Events and Workshops

We got back into full swing this year with travelling to events and attending conferences. It’s been great to meet with music supervisors, ad agencies, production companies, artists, other publishers, and labels interested in co-writing. Here’s a rundown of key events throughout 2022.

Debs

Our director, Debs, has visited India twice with Deepa, our Head of Partnerships for Asia, and spoke on the sync licensing panel at All About Music in Mumbai. She also managed to visit Jagoda in Poland where they met with artists and music supervisors together. In November, Debs also accompanied roster artist Ed Geater to Thailand on a 10-day songwriting camp (Writing Retreat Asia) in association with May Music Ltd and Kaleidoscope Music. We also can’t forget that Debs attended the rescheduled Christmas lunch for the Music Publishers Association, which she’s proud to be a member of.

Jagoda

Head of A&R, Jagoda, attended LA Sync Mission, travelled back to the UK, and managed to attend events within Poland such as Tallinn Music Week, SEA YOU 2022 and GREAT SEPTEMBER, amongst many others. It’s been a busy year for Jagoda, and we’re so happy that she’s able to attend key industry events throughout Europe.

Deepa

Our Head of Partnerships for Asia, Deepa, has had a busy year of travelling too! Deepa has visited India twice with our Director, Debs, as well as attending All About Music India and visiting IPRS in India. Deepa is currently looking forward to bringing back our successful “Music Publishing Simplified” Instagram Live educational sessions with our sister company Horus Music India in 2023.

Punam

This year, Punam got her first experience of attending The Great Escape Festival in Brighton. She said of the experience “TGE was the highlight of my 2022! It was my first time in Brighton and to a networking event. I had the opportunity to meet new people, learn more about the industry at the panels and listen to lots of amazing artists, including our artist Martha Phillips with her band Trunc!

Beth

To try and stay as connected to you all as possible and showcase our amazing songwriters, we launched an Instagram series called “In Conversation With” hosted by Beth, where once a month we delved into the career of our artists and what they have planned for the upcoming year. Currently in her 3rd (and final) year of Music Business studies at BIMM in Birmingham, Beth has been firmly based at Anara Publishing HQ, but has loved connecting with artists from all over the world online.

Growing the Roster

We signed 10 amazing artists in 2022. Here in the UK, we brought onboard electronic soul artist Dornik and folk-pop songstress Namvula. In India, we welcomed  Tarun Balani, Zariya, Murtuza Gadiwala, Abhimanyu-Pragya and Kidshot. Elsewhere,  HALFOFYOU and Gabrielknowseverything joined us from the US, and we made our second Polish signing as we welcomed rock duo The Bullseyes.
We asked every member of the team to pick their favourite songs that were added to the Anara Publishing catalogue in 2022. Have a listen in the playlist here.

Sync Successes

It’s been a busy year at Anara HQ for sync successes:

  • Ajimovoix’s Focus Dance Beat was used in the end credits and trailer for Netflix film, Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke

  • Zoom used “Spin” by The Penniless Wild in their Zoomtopia event

  • Shadow and Light put together the perfect eerie yet sweet piece of music that we’re now thrilled to see released in the series – Dharavi Bank. Listen on Spotify.
