The latest signing from India to join the Anara Publishing roster is artist, beat maker and composer, Tarun Balani. His sound is self-described as “a mixture of Indian roots yet drawing from a world of influences and synthesising its expression in new improvised music.”

While Tarun continues to feature his genre bending quartet with trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, pianist Sharik Hasan and guitarist Olli Hirvonen, across the globe, he also broadens his palette with a gripping new live act as Seasonal Affected Beats in India. Seasonal Affected Beats is Tarun’s alter ego and is a solo project where he explores electronic music. Referring to what he does as ‘improvised electronic music’, he brings finesse, controlled volatility, and the discipline of jazz, all merged with the malleability of electronic beats.

An inward and spiritual experience for Tarun, music has had a very special impact on his life, in finding his voice as an artist, and building a career as a composer, performer and an educator, and his music is driven by a restless desire to be a holistic artist.

The publication, All About Jazz, has described Tarun’s music and artistry as “nothing short of remarkable,” he has also been dubbed as “one of the finest and most successful jazz drummers and composers to emerge from the country” by publication The Wild City. To add to this, reviews of Balani’s music have also been featured in various worldwide publications such as Time Out Magazine, Red Bull Music, and The Telegraph, to name a few.

Deborah Smith, Director of Anara Publishing said of the signing: “I’ve known Tarun for quite a few years now and am a huge fan of his music. I’m excited to finally welcome him officially on board the Anara roster and am looking forward to being part of his journey as he continues to flourish as a songwriter.”

Tarun Balani said of the signing, “I am very happy to be a part of the Anara Publishing roster and I look forward to exploring the world of Music Publishing with them.”
