Reed Maxfield

Surrey-based British songwriting duo Philippa Reed and Chris Maxfield began their musical collaboration in 2003. The resulting body of work: their ongoing ‘Songbook’ series, is a reflection of their combined influences and talents.

Genres:

Folk, Country, Alt. Country, Country Rock/Pop

For Fans Of:

Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Buckingham Nicks, Crosby Stills & Nash

The Reed Maxfield sound is threaded by their emotive emphasis on storytelling, love of harmonies, and ear for melodic hooks. Reed Maxfield draw on a wide range of influences. These stretch from British Folk to US Country and Americana, through to the classic Singer-Songwriter genre of the early 70s, and back to 50’s & 60s Rock & Roll.

Harmonies and melodies, particularly from Country & Folk music, play a large part in their inspiration, and they take cue from artists such as Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Buckingham Nicks / Fleetwood Mac, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, to name a few. “We let the songs come through a natural process and follow our instincts” say the duo. “The key thing for us is to tell a fully-realised story, in a well-crafted arrangement, and to create a song you’ll be humming away to after the first play!”

Reed Maxfield’s songs are available as existing recordings, but the duo also offer their songs for interpretation by other artists, which is why their production and instrumentation is kept simple. Reed Maxfield perform their own music live, and have opened for various US and UK folk and country acts including Eve Selis, Red Sky July and My Darling Clementine, as well headlining their own shows up and down the UK.

Reed Maxfield’s music (a commissioned original track) currently features on the online campaign for the Taunton Cider Company Ltd.

Reed Maxfield – big on hooks, harmonies & hum-ability!
