Blending Hip-Hop, Rap, and Pop, with just a touch of EDM, C-Dot’s unique style has gained him fans in over 90 countries around the world, contributing to over 12 million streams on Spotify alone. Anara Publishing caught up with C-Dot 416 to ask him about his journey within music, influences, and what he has planned for the rest of 2022.

Though C-Dot 416 was born in Maine, he was raised in Toronto and cites the city as the place that changed his life and helped to shape the person he is today. He explains, Music started for me as a young kid. Always following along to the beats of songs and trying to create my own lyrics. It became more of my passion and career around the age of 18 when I first came out as CDOT.” Speaking of his biggest influence, his mum, C-Dot says, My mum, her strength and wisdom. She taught me everything I needed to know to be a good human. I put that into my music. I try to help as much as I can with my lyrics.” His catchy hooks and clever verses have contributed to his early successes, and it is clearto see why fans can’t get enough of C-Dot’s music.

I think my music has what a lot of people are looking for when it comes to connecting, it’s all real. When you play one of my songs and it’s sad and it’s making you cry, I too cried writing and experiencing what you hear. It’s all true, my life.”

Describing a key moment in his career, C-Dot discloses, “A pivotal moment for me was October 2nd 2021. Being able to have my first headlining show after two years of Covid taking the business away. After that show things started heading in the right direction and fast!” Multiple shows later, C-Dot is preparing for festival season, and he’s kicking things off with Summer Sound 2022 on 27th May, dubbed “the most poppin’ music festival in Maine. Following this headline appearance, C-Dot has big plans for live shows and touring, “I’d like to start a tour around the east coast US and maybe branch out all over. Even Europe.”

Since joining Anara Publishing in December 2020, C-Dot’s artistry and network has grown, including the opportunity to collaborate with renowned producer NicoTheOwl on tracks ‘Early Morning Notifs and Cruisin.’, a collaboration that Anara Publishing set up. Speaking on his songwriting process, C-Dot says “My song writing process is completely random. I never know when the lyrics will come. I can’t force it, sometimes it takes months and sometimes only minutes.” As any independent songwriter knows, music publishing is a central part of their career.  A music publisher deals with the business side of a songwriter’s career and aims to increase the potential income streams for their songs to earn more royalties. See our article on An Independent Songwriters’ Guide to Music Publishing” for more information and advice. “Since joining Anara I’ve learned a great deal about publishing, I’ve learned everything I know now. I didn’t have a clue before.”
